As of 2011 about 50,000 Koreans reside in Shanghai. According to 2006 estimates about 85,000 Joseonjok live in Shanghai. As of 2013 over 19,800 South Koreans are resident in Shanghai. The South Koreans make up the third largest expatriate group in Shanghai. South Koreans began moving to China after the 1992 establishment of diplomatic relations between South Korea and the People's Republic of China. Most South Koreans migrated to Shanghai due to business reasons.
