Freetekno is a cultural movement that is present in Europe, Australia and North America. Freetekno sound systems or tribes form in loose collectives, frequently with anarchist philosophies. These sound systems join together to hold parties wherever a viable space can be found – typical locations include warehouses, fields, abandoned buildings or forests. Because freetekno parties are usually held illegally this sometimes leads to clashes with the police, as was the case at both the 2004 and 2005 Czechtek festivals and many other, smaller parties around the world at different times.

Freetekno ist eine Subkultur der Techno-Bewegung und existiert seit Beginn der 1990er Jahre als Gegenbewegung zum kommerziellen Rave und Techno. Die Szene ist informell und dezentral in Soundsystemen organisiert. Der Begriff bezeichnet einerseits die PA-Anlage und andererseits den Zusammenhang von Personen, die Free Partys/Raves mit dieser Anlage organisieren. Die Soundsysteme bauen zum großen Teil die Boxen ihrer PA selbst, bauen diese PA eigenständig auf, legen auf oder spielen Live-Musik und bauen die Anlage wieder ab.

El freetekno o tekno libre se refiere a un subgénero del techno así como el movimiento cultural que gira en torno a él, el cual es contracultural, anticomercial y autogestionado, y está conformado por aficionados a la música electrónica que se unen en colectivos para organizar free parties o, por su traducción al español, 'fiestas libres', en el sentido de que no están reguladas por la ley ni tienen restricciones de ningún tipo. El movimiento freetekno se originó en los años 90 el norte y centro de Europa, que es además donde más presencia tiene. De ahí se extendió al sur de Europa y América.
